In my day to day walk with the Lord I often find myself humming or even singing a song that verbalizes the state I am in. Whether a state of praise, surrender, pain, happiness, or looking for His will. Here are a few that I feel have wonderful messages and can be nearly, but not quite as, encouraging as Scripture.
All the Way My Savior Leads Me
- All the way my Savior leads me,
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well. - All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living Bread.
Though my weary steps may falter
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see. - All the way my Savior leads me,
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.
Constantly Abiding
A peace it cannot take away;
Though the trials of life may surround like a cloud,
I’ve a peace that has come here to stay!
All the world seemed to sing of a Savior and King,
When peace sweetly came to my heart;
Troubles all fled away and my night turned to day,
Blessed Jesus, how glorious Thou art!
This treasure I have in a temple of clay,
While here on His footstool I roam;
But He’s coming to take me some glorious day,
Over there to my heavenly home!
Chorus:
Constantly abiding, Jesus is mine;
Constantly abiding, rapture divine;
He never leaves me lonely, whispers, oh, so kind:
“I will never leave thee”—Jesus is mine.
It Is Well
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea-billows roll;
What ever my lot, Thou hast tought me to say, It is will, it is well with my soul
Though Satan should buffet, tho' trials should come, let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed His own blood for my soul.
My sin - O the bliss of this glorious though - My sin - not in part but the whole -
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul.
And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend, "Even so" - it is well with my soul.
Chorus:
It is well (It is well) with my soul (with my soul), it is well, it is well with my soul.
I Surrender All
All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him, in His presence daily live.
All to Jesus I surrender, humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken, take me, Jesus, take me now.
All to Jesus I surrender, make me, Saviour, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit - truly know that Thou art mine.
All to Jesus I surrender, Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power, let Thy blessing fall on me.
Chorus:
I surrender all (I surrender all) I surrender all (I surrender all).
All to Thee, my blessed Saviour, I surrender all.
Trust and Obey
When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the alter we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we'll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there's no other way,
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
